Little noticed in the NAACP speech, which I thought was a nice effort because Romney challenged his audience and did not pander to them, is his reference to the civil rights work of his father, former Michigan Governor George Romney (George Romney was my governor for a short period of time when we lived in Marquette in 1968 through 1970 and was a boyhood hero of sorts for opposing the Vietnam war) towards the end of the speech:

George Romney walked in a civil rights march in Detroit.  (He would have walked with Dr. King but it was Sunday! I would have mentioned that!)

George Romney signed a civil rights law in Michigan Constitution and first Civil Rights Commission in the state.

George Romney was a man of faith who treated people with dignity.

“I am grateful to him for so many things…”

I am also glad Gov. Romney referred to the Name Above Every Name!  I hope the NAACP speech will help Romney with independents.

Got to get this into a commercial – George Romney is proud of his son, the probable nominee for President.
